- Business: Instagram @brooklynbloomsnyc
2. What do you do?
I create beautiful things out of beautiful things.
3. What motivates you?
The desire to become a well known floral designer whilst being a powerful influencer and contributor to the youth and underserved in the Black community.
4. How do you balance between your career, side hustles, and your social life?
Honestly, I don't have much of a social life due to me having a new business. I have to stay on top of my tight budget since every dollar I get I'm responsible for making. Being your own boss is great in essence but tough in reality. At least in the beginning stages, which is where I am at the moment. I'm building! However, I go out every so often because I should and I deserve it! My SO is supportive so he finds fun things for us to do. Always reward yourself is what I'm learning, it's important, gives you a sense of gratitude to yourself.
5. What does Professional Homegirl means to you?
A Professional Homegirl is someone that knows how to carry herself in all settings. She is confident, unapologetically Black, down to Earth, and intelligent. Whether she is a entrepreneur, artist, mother or climbing the corporate ladder she is a reflection of what Black Excellence is! She's your friend from around the way but has some sense about herself and wants to beat all of the odds. Making an impact on her community and seeing everyone win is vital because, WE ALL WE GOT! That's a Professional Homegirl!
6.What advice would you give to young women who want to pursue their dreams?
To those that want to pursue their dreams, as simple and cliche as it may sound, Just Do It! One foot in front of the other because eventually you will make it to your destination! It was my dream to live in NYC, I wanted to come for college but my family was afraid of the big city! I was never afraid, I got bit by the wanderlust bug early! I moved to NYC a month after I graduated from college with NO plans! I didn't have a job lined up, no interviews, nothing! However, I had a skill! I'd been working as a florist all four years of college so that was my side hustle until I found my "dream" fashion job. If you have dreams, it is pertinent to have a few various skills that will help you achieve them. I took that time to sharpen my skill and learn the NYC way of floral design. Even while working in fashion, I worked at a flower shop on the weekend just because I loved it. Flowers chose me, it's my real passion and dream job! I said all of that to say, if you have dreams, choose one that makes the most sense and is aligned with your spirit and chase it, DO NOT STOP! It will get hard and you will want to quit, trust me, I know but DON'T, KEEP GOING!!! WE'RE ROOTING FOR YOU! Our ancestors are rooting for us!
