We're Going to Need More Wine Part 2
I just finished reading Chapters 11-20 in We're Going to Need More Wine by Gabrielle Union and overall it was an excellent read. In the last part of the book, she shared stories about supporting her first husband (which we all can relate to with ex-boyfriends), meeting The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, and going to the drug store to purchase cream for a yeast infection. The one story that stood out the most to me is when she lost one of best friends, Sook, to cancer. I'm not going to share too much about this story because I really want you to go and pick up our homegirl Gabby's book. However, I will share with you what I received from it.
When I first started working at my new job, my eyes would irritate the hell out of me. I didn't think much of it due to the fact that I was just really exhausted and so were my eyes. Eventually, my eyes gave up on me and my became bloodshot red. Every little thing would irritate them and I could barely keep my eyes open. When this would happen, I'll just wear my glasses for a couple of days until my eyes got better and popped my contact lens back in. I've been holding out on going to the eye doctor but this couldn't wait much longer.
As I sat in the doctor's office, my eye was extremely red and it wouldn't stop tearing up. She finally sat me in the dark and examine my eyes and gave me a look that I didn't want to see. She told me that both of my eyes were dry and extremely inflame and I had an ulcer on my left eye. Chile when I tell you I started to cry asking her if I was going blind if I needed surgery, any and everything that I thought could happen. I really thought I was about to be Ray Charles to the bullshit (too soon? lol)
Luckily she told me I came just in time before the infection got worse and she prescribed medicine for my eye. Plus, I would have to wear my glasses for two weeks straight until my eyes got better. Fast forward to now, I just left my eye doctor office and my eyes are back baby! Now I know you probably wondering what does my eye infection have to do with Gabby's best friend Sook. It's simple.
If something doesn't feel right in or on your body, make the time to go to the doctor immediately. As #professionalhomegirls, we make time for everything else but what's really important: OUR HEALTH. You are no good to your loved ones, your business, and your self if you don't get checked out. My eyes have been red numerous times and I should have gone the first time but instead, I let it get so bad to the point that I had an ulcer on one of them.
Ever since my little health scare, I am appointment shawty. I am getting my whole entire body checked out and I recommend that you do the same. Like Gabrielle said at the end of her book and it was perfect timing for me, take care of yourself.
P.S I wanna give a huge shout out to my guest contributors for holding it down for me with providing stories. Y'all I could barely work on the blog when this happen so I am extremely thankful to everyone that helped me out these past two weeks!
