Five Biggie Songs That Inspired My Entrepreneurial Spirit

It’s been twenty-one years since we lost one of the greatest rappers of all time, Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious Big. Ever since I moved back to New York, I always looked forward to hearing his music throughout the neighborhoods in Brooklyn and one day it finally hit me. I literally had an aha moment about how his lyrics can be used to inspire young entrepreneurs.  I decided to listen to my own Biggie playlist on Tidal and I realized that Biggie been trying to put us on to game when it came to being your own self-made boss. Listed below are my top five favorite songs that I recommend to any #PHG that wants to secure the bag while staying focus.

Juicy- Like many, I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth and neither was Biggie. Every time I hear this song, it's a reminder that it's not how you start but how you finish. When it comes to entrepreneurship, we all know that it can be a very stressful and frugal road in the beginning but the awards that are soon to come afterward are so worth it. Just like Biggie said, you too can go from negative to positive in your life and all of your wildest dreams can come true.

Ten Crack Commandments- Now I’m not saying to sell anything that’s illegal but this song is the perfect example of how you should conduct any business. He literally breaks down the rules of starting a business and the dos and don'ts of it. I know you think I'm crazy for using this particular song as a reference to entrepreneurship, but I swear this is literally a step by step booklet on being successful in any business.

My favorite commandment is Rule No. 6: That Goddamn Credit? DEAD IT. In the beginning, you are not in any position to give out freebies. Unless the freebie is going to Beyonce', Issa no for me dawg. What's your favorite commandment?

Get Money- At the end of the day, it's all about securing the bag. You worked so hard to get to a point where you can finally see your dreams become a reality so why let someone interfere with that? Protect your energy from anyone or anything that's not helping you elevate either yourself or your business because he/she or it is wasting your time. Honestly, I don't think I need to elaborate any more on this one because it's really that self-explanatory sis, Get Money!

Mo Money Mo Problems- We all know that once you get to a new level in your life or business, there's always a new devil waiting to test you. Biggie has been telling us this for years and it's so true. However, don't let it discourage you! This is only preparing you for whats to come so remain focus on the bigger picture.

Sky’s the Limit- This is my favorite song from Biggie! This song is so instrumental to me and every time I am feeling low I go back and listen to this song to lift up my spirits. Life can be a bitch at times but no matter what you gotta continue to have faith in yourself. My favorite verse and now a daily affirmation is the following:  Stay far from timid, only make moves when your heart's in it, and live the phrase Sky's The Limit.

I hope this mini playlist inspires you to build a legacy of your own and to go after everything you ever wanted in life.
