Are You In A Creative Rut Too?

I noticed that lately, I have not been in the mood to do shit. I think after my birthday trip (click here to read about my birthday trip in Tulum), I kinda stayed on vacation mode and never turned it off since then. Plus, I just began binge watching Game of Thrones so I am pretty sure that has a lot to do with me not wanting to do shit as well. I know I know, I'm late to the Game of Thrones bandwagon so don't judge me. However, I started to realize that I wasn't doing anything due to the lack of motivation, but more so due to the lack of discipline and planning. I can be motivated all day to want to do something but if I do not have the discipline to get it done regardless of how I am feeling, it will never get done.

Granted, I have been consistent with The PHG Podcast and Ebone' Beauty, but I can admit that I have not been consistent enough with my baby PHG. I realize that if I wanted to meet my deadlines, I needed to snap out of it and get back to business. If you find yourself in a creative rut like myself, ask yourself these three questions:

1. Are you bored?

2. Are you burnt out?

3. Is it time for a change?

I must admit, I was bored. Don't get me wrong, I love creating. I love to create content and to connect with my local PHGs but I got into a creative rut and couldn't get myself out of it. I was so caught up on keeping up with other bloggers that I got lost in the sauce and more so focus on the quantity of my work and not the quality of it. During these moments, it's is important to remember your WHY. I started to reminisce on the reasons why I created The Professional Homegirl and wanting to fill that void of a regular degular smegular around the way girl doing cool shit. Plus, I am all about the underdog and I love connecting with women that overcame obstacles and wanting to share gems that would help the next Professional Homegirl out during her own growing pains. I realized that it was time for me to switch some things up and to find new inspiration so I can get these creative juices flowing once again. However, in order to do that, I must plan accordingly. Hence the answer to my second question, I burnt myself out.

Chile, I do not know how I am doing it all and still functioning properly. Between working my very demanding 9-5, creating content, selling lashes, being a girlfriend, and taking care of Ebone', ya' girl was drained. I mean just typing all of that shit just exhausted me lol. Seriously, I was doing so much and spreading myself so thin that for a while, I didn't want to do anything but eat and sleep. Sounds pretty depressing right? This is why it is important to plan, plan, plan! Here are some reasons why you should plan every little detail in your life:

1. Planning helps you set direction and prioritize your goals which will help you meet deadlines.

2. Planning helps to simplify decision making and prepare you for any obstacles that may come your way.

3. Planning is so necessary because it helps maintains balance in your life.

If these are not clear indicators of why planning is essential, I don't know what to tell you.

Now if you are reading this and you feel like this is a chapter from your own life, girl it is time for a change. Figure out what needs to go and what needs a little fine-tuning. I know for me, I have to make the most out of my day by waking up at a certain time and sticking to my schedule. Do I want to wake up early especially on my days off? Hell no! But do I want to quit my 9-5 and turn my dreams into my reality? HELL YES! However, in order to achieve these goals my friend, you will definitely need a plan along with discipline. Always remember, you do not lack discipline, you lack a plan. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
